 November Minutes
The Topeka Engineers Club met Thursday, November 15, 2012, at Johnnie Carino’s with sixteen members and guests present.
Ken Hurst called the meeting to order at 12:45 and briefly outlined plans for future meetings, encouraging ideas for programs.  Christmas donations of $50 to the Salvation Army, Let’s Help and Doorstep were unanimously approved.  The club will not ring bells for the Salvation Army this year; Leland Salts was thanked for his many years of organizing the ringing.  The treasurer’s report (balance of $508.02) and the minutes of the September meeting had been included in the meeting notice; both were unanimously approved.  Dean Landman reported that Maurice Minihan had resigned from the club.

Where's the Trucks?

A retired KDOT engineer, J.R. Campbell and his family made a trip to Alaska to see the sites. Actually, J.R. had developed an interest in Ice Road Trucking, but they made the trip in the summer but they saw the animals and scenery and took many pictures. We are privileged to make the trip to Alaska from here in Topeka.

Our member John Meyer told of his outstanding trip to Washington DC (an expense free Honor Flight for WWII Veterans) with 28 other veterans, 28 guardians and sponsors under the sponsorship of Kansas Honor Flight No. 1.  His son (one of the sponsors) accompanied him on the trip.  They flew Southwest Airlines from Kansas City to Baltimore, stayed 2 nights at the Airport Hilton and were sent off/greeted at all stops by color guards and appreciative recognition of bystanders.  At the airport they were greeted by The Annapolis Cadet Honor Guard.  They had full days visiting the impressive WWII Memorial with its column for each state, being greeted by Senator Jerry Moran and Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins, visiting other memorials, the Holocaust Museum, the Air and Space Museum, taking part in the Changing of the Guard (John presenting the wreath) at Arlington Cemetery, as well as visiting Fort McHenry.  John also shared the remembrance picture book prepared by his son.   Our group appreciated taking the trip through his presentation.

The meeting adjourned at 1:20 to meet again in January.
