Rev. Arlen Bruns

Rev. Dr. Arlen J. Bruns, 85, Topeka, a Missouri Synod Lutheran minister, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at a Topeka hospital.

He was born May 23, 1915, in Denver, Iowa, to Herman J. and Emma Matthias Bruns. He graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 1938 and was ordained to the Lutheran ministry in 1939 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Meade where he was minister from 1939 to 1944.

He was minister of Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend from 1944 to 1964 and Immanuel Lutheran in Junction City from 1964 to 1970.

He served on the board of directors of the Kansas District of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, from 1951 to 1960 and was president of the Kansas District from 1960 to 1978. He served from 1978 to 1985 as a part-time chaplain at the Topeka Veterans Hospital and as interim pastor for several parishes.

He was a charter member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Topeka. He was a volunteer with Lutheran Braille Workers and served with the deaf ministry in Kansas.
