Jan
29, 2010 - I received an email from a gentleman whose uncle attended St Paul
Lutheran Church, north of Ellsworth. They were wanting to rebind the official
church book, but first they wanted to scan it into a digital file(s). I first
sent an email indicating that I would check with the Kansas Historical Museum to
find someone who could rebind the document.
Feb
5, 2010 - I went to the Museum and visited with a librarian who indicated that
they hadn't bound anything for some time and the one binder that was in Topeka
was no longer in business. Jostens was the only one available. She also give me
the name of someone at the Historical Museum that I should contact. She also
said that they had scanned historical material in the past, so that they could
have it, but would provide the owner with a copy of the file in digital form.
I
email the person from whom I had received the email and passed this information
along.
Feb
9, 2010 - I received a telephone call from Glenys Bruning, the Historian for
St.Paul, following up on my email. They had someone to bind the document, but
were only looking for someone the scan it. They were interested in having the
Museum do the scanning. I called the person, whose name I had been given and
checked on the possibly of getting the scanning done. The person was Darrell
Garwood, 785-272- 8681, Ext 141. He indicated that since their funding had been
cut, they were no longer about to scan documents such as that of St. Paul's. He
said the going price for scanning is between 10 & 20 cents per page.
Feb
10, 2010 - I called Mrs. Bruning and passed along the information. She was
naturally disappointed. I suggested that because of the large number of pages to
be scanned, the might be ahead to buy a scanner and do it themselves. She
indicated that the pages were 11x17 inches. I am not sure that that large a
scanner is readily available. I told her I would keep checking and I would
appreciate her keeping me informed about what they choose to do.
