Received a call on the answering machine from Elaine Saffels (785-266-3007). She asked me to call her as she was interested in information about LWML. I returned the call and left a message on her answering machine that I had called.

I made a trip to the District Office to check on the LWML files and found none. In visiting with Doris, she suggest that I call Velma Bass in Leavenworth (913-682-8942), which I did. She indicated that up until her term as President of the LWML in Kansas, every president had kept the files in their homes. She appointed Esther Ideker as LWML historian and archivist. I then called Esther (cell: 785-364-7988), landline: 785-933-2361, email: esther@jbntelco.com) and she indicated that there were five plastic containers in the basement of the District Office that contained both pictures, minutes of meetings and other items that she felt had historic value. She gave me permission to check out the material in the boxes as I needed to.<EDL>

Elaine Saffels called and indicated that she had been appointed by the President of Kansas LWML go put together some information on the history of the LWML in Kansas for the next convention. She indicated that the Kansas LWML was organized in 1940 and that she would like to have something about the original meetings, pictures from that time period. I told her that I would go to the District Office next week and take a look. I will try to scan any information that might be of interest to her and make it available to her.

I placed a call to Elaine Saffels to tell her that I had scanned some documents at the District Office that included some of the early days of LWML. I left a message for her to return a call. <EDL>

Elaine Saffels returned my call and indicated that she had been out of town. I told her that I would make a print of each document that I had scanned and leave those prints and a CD at the District Office on Wednesday the 21st. I also wrote some notes for her to follow. I told her to look at the prints and decide what she would like to do with them and then take the CD to Wolfe's or Zercher's to get better prints made.
