Karl Wyneken

8/21/2006 - As I understand, Pastor Karl Wyneken called George about the record for the Lutheran Church that was at Durham. George could not remember the name of the person the Pastor Wyneken asked about, but he needed a record of the baptismal date for this individual. We found that some of the records for Durham were in the District Office and a note says that some of them had been given to the Church in Peabody. George asked me to call Pastor Wyneken (559-439-8530) to find out for whom he needed these data.

9/22/2006 - I called Karl Wyneken again for about the 20th time over the last month. Several weeks ago, I called the church (Redeemer - 559-439-8500) that I thought he might attend. The receptionist said that he attended Hope (559-439-4320) which as also nearby. They did not know where he might be.

Today, I sent an email to each of the four Wyneken that is listed as Church Workers in the LCMS online directory asking about him and also if someone could give me the name of the person for whom he was trying to get baptismal information.

9/23/06 - To: Dean Landman

(Copies: My dear 4th cousins, who need give no further attention to this

matter)

I am the person you are trying to reach, Dean. Sorry for the trouble you've

had reaching me. We've been on an extended trip since July 24, still making

our way home, currently in Denver. Appreciate your effort to reply to my

inquiry to George. Actually, there was no hurry about this, and I was

planning to follow up on it further upon my return.

A friend of mine here in Fresno, Beverly Kirsch, is researching her family

tree and has reason to believe there might be some pertinent data in the

records between about 1892 and 1895.of Trinity L.C. of Durham, KS. This

note from Beverly tells what information she is searching for:

<< My great-grandfather was Johannes, (or John) Weber, born in 1861.

>

> His wife was Catherine (or Katarina) Weber, born in 1862.

>

> They came to the U.S. in 1892 and settled in Durham, KS, with their 3

children, Mollie, (born 1887,) Mary, (born 1889,) and Annie, (birthdate

unknown.) They came from Messer, Russia, a German colony on the Volga

River.

>

> I'm trying to learn the names of Johannes' and Catherine's parents and

establish if other relatives came with them from Russia. There may be

baptismal records for Annie or for Bertha Weber, who was born while they

lived in Durham. I hope church records might give names of god-parents or

grandparents. I also hope church records indicate the birthplaces of

Johannes and Catherine. I'm not sure if they were born in Russia or in

Germany and desperately want to know this. My goal is to trace my family

back to their origins in Germany.

>

> Catherine's brother, Jacob Gabel (or Goebel,) and their father, Christian

Gabel, also came to the U.S. I'd like to know if they appear in the Durham

church records. It's possible that Johannes' mother, Catherine Schmidt

Weber, may have come with them. She did not follow to CA, and may have died

there. If so, there may be a record of her death or funeral with

information about her parentage and birthplace. >>

Pastor Bruening thought the Durham records may have been transmitted to CHI,

but they informed me they do not have them. George thought they might have

been transmitted to the chuch at Tampa with which Trinity, Durham, merged,

but an earlier inquiry of the Tampa church was inconclusive.
