Wallace Behrhorst

8/8/2011 – Barb McComas, District Office, called and indicated that I had a letter sent to me that was there is the office. I went to the District and opened the letter. It was from Rev Wallace Behrhorst, asking for information about his baptismal date, presumably at Zion Lutheran Church at Brazilton, KS. He indicated that the church is now abandoned.

I checked and neither the District or Synod had the official records for that church. It is likely that they were given to a neighboring church where the bulk of the members transferred. The Synodical records that were available showed that the church closed between 1990 and 2002.

I called Bob Sandmann, lay minister, living in Girard to see if he could find where the records are for Zion. He said he would check and get back to me.

8/15/2011 -- I received word from the pastor at Girard that they had no record of Rev. Wallace Behrhorst being baptized at Brazilton. (i.e. The records from Zion, Brazilton had been transferred to Girard when Zion closed. He suggested that I check the church at Hempler, which I did. I received an email from the pastor at Hempler today indicating that Rev Behrhorst had been baptized at the family home. His email read thus:

Regarding the church records for the Baptism of Rev. Wallace Berhorst.

The records of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hepler, KS indicate that Rev. Behrhorst was baptized on Nov. 28, 1926 in the home of his parents, Henry and Katherine (nee Vogts) Behrhorst, in Brazilton.

Many blessings,
Pastor Jay Hobson

I called Rev. Behrhorst and passed the date of his baptism on to him. He really appreciated the information. He then ask me if I had copies of the 1971, 73 & 75 Synodical Convention Handbooks in the archives. I indicated that I would check.
