- Despite the cost of living, have you noticed how popular it remains?

Try it - Multiply 37,037 by any single digit number, then multiply that by three. Every number in the answer will be the same as the first single digit number.

“ New Radio System – Staffing - Legacy”

              May 18, 2012                      Vol. 1  No. 28

THERE’S A NEW SHERIFF…in town and it is Sheriff Herman Jones. Sheriff Jones visited with us about the proposed new radio communication system for his department.  Price tag is right at $12 million dollars. One of his main concerns has to do with privacy. Will the new system allow for home scanners to be able to listen in to what is happening and learn who is doing what to whom.  He also has to make some decision rather quickly as it relates to staffing his department. Currently there are a number of openings but they come with salaries which will eat into his budget.  Thanks for the updates.  Love to see the Sheriff return REAL soon as a full club member.

CAPT. BILL CROCAN…will receive our clubs Respect for Law award at this weeks meeting.
RON BROWN…Carl Smith was club president 1976-77. AND Carl will be having a celebration of his 95th birthday on Saturday May 26th at Brewster Place East Community Room from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Please stop by and tell Carl Happy Birthday!

Nancy Foster won the ticket pot, while Ken Zeller’s badge number was drawn, and Tom Wigley added to his candy stash for having his named drawn from the attendance list.

RESPECT FOR LAW AWARD…from the Downtown Optimist Club for 2012 was presented to Capt. Bill Cochran of the Topeka Police Department for his work with the troubled citizens of Topeka, who all to often find themselves “being housed” in Jail. He works tirelessly trying to improve law enforcement personnel’s understanding on how to deal with the mentally ill. He works with as many as possible organizations who come into contact with the mental ill on a daily basis.  Outstanding job Bill and thank you for your work and devotion to helping Topeka, being a more accepting and understanding city to and for all of its citizens.

SHANNON DIAZ…of Al-Anon/Alateen will be our first speaker for the month of June.  Misty has a great line up of guest speakers for June.

PRESIDENT CLYDE…read and passed around for all to read the thank you notes the club received from the third graders of Loman Hill, who early this month we took bowling, followed up with a pizza party. The notes are very much appreciated, and they make for happy insight into the minds of third graders.

The Honorable Ted Heim won the ticket pot split, while badge number either 6 or 9 was called, but it didn’t make any difference, neither was there.  YE PREZ won the attendance list shout out!!
