Goin' Fishin'

I went fishing this morning but after a short time, I ran out of worms. Then, I saw a cottonmouth with a frog in his mouth.  Frogs are good bass bait.
Knowing the snake couldn't bite me with a frog in his mouth, I grabbed him right behind the head, and took the frog and put it in my bait bucket.
Now, the dilemma was how to release the snake without getting bite. I grabbed my bottle of Jack Daniels and poured a little whiskey in his mouth. His eves rolled back and he went limp.  I released him into the lake without incident and carried on fishing using the frog.
A little later, I felt a nudge at my foot. It was the snake, with two more frogs.

“THE ALCHEMIST POT”

“17 Coaches – 5,000 Friends – Referees”

February 17,2012                          Vol. 1,                                                      No. 17

PENNY LANE… current Athletic Director at Washburn Rural High School visited with us about the many high school teams she oversees – 17 in total number. From 5,000 people at a Friday night football game to the parents of the debate team, all supporting their sons and daughters in whichever competitive activity they are involved with. One interesting item has to do with her difficulty in finding enough referees to officiate at games because of unsportsmanlike attitudes and behavior. Thanks Penny for a shining presentation. (Are those groans I hear?!)

WELL DESERVED… thank you to Ted Heim. Ted was presented the Christian Larson Award for his origination and continued activity in the DODG program for kids at risk who need positive forces and support in their lives. None better than Ted and Ken.

INTER-CLUB…visit with SUNRISE club next Tuesday, Feb. 21st. Meeting is at the Sunrise baseball center club house, just north of Seaman High School. 6:45 A of my Golly M. Set those alarm clocks. Currently we have 4 of the required 5 to make it an official visit.

D. Lee won the ticket draw – J. Meyer won the badge draw – N. Foster won the attendance list shout out.

                “ 1952 – Three Churches - Children”

        February 24, 2012                      Vol. 1  No. 18

TOPEKA LUTHERAN SCHOOLS… Although there have been a Lutheran School in Topeka for more than a century, the Association began in 1952 with the initial support of five Lutheran Churches.  Currently three churches help with the schools.  Over 200 young people are currently at the two campuses . Jennifer Turner, the current principal of the schools, gave us an over view of current and future plans for the students and facilities. Average pupil to teacher ratio is 16. Thanks Jennifer for the information and insight to the Topeka Lutheran Schools.

Bill Gannaway…has done one OUTSTANDING job in lining up the speakers for the FIVE, count’em, five programs in March. Next week is Mary Beth Marchiony, head of school, Topeka Collegiate. Then Zoo people, after that, Downtown Topeka, followed by Peace and Justice and finally United Way.

INTER-CLUB…with Sunrise was a great success. We had the magic number of five: Leland, Bill, Nancy, Joanne and little old me.  Thank you ALL you early risers!

Mike “Mizzou” Akulow Jr won the ticket draw. Hopefully that is all the winning for Missouri for this weekend.

Don Lee is on a roll, he won the badge number pot, after last week winning the ticket draw.

Daren Davies, who was in attendance, name was called on the attendance sheet BUT he had to leave early.  Daren it was great to see you at the meeting and I am holding the candy bar for the next time I see you at the meeting. ( CHOMP!! – better hurry!)
