“THE ALCHEMIST POT”

“1360 A.D.—HEAD STONES—JESSE JAMES”

 February 3, 2012                                                                                                Vol. 1, No. 15

SO FAR…Dean Landman has traced his genealogy back to 1360 A.D.  Dean gave a most interesting presentation on how he has traced his family line back to Germany.  He currently is working to go even beyond the current 1360 A.D. date.  He did find that Jesse James is a distant cousin.  Thanks Dean.

DNA…Next week’s program will be presented by a Retired Law Office and has used DNA which currently used to help convict felons accused of vicious crimes against mankind.  He is now using his knowledge of DNA to trace relatives for genealogy purposes. Should be a most interesting program.

MONEY HONEY!...If anyone still has money out from our chili supper please get it to Rod.  Currently, we have banked $1,100 profit, a little behind the last couple of years.

***…I would appreciate it if you would go through your 2012 calendar and on every Friday—AT NOON—place a Star (*).  We have good food and great fellowship.  We NEED YOU!

 J. Kensinger won the ticket draw---B. Holmes’ name came up on the badge draw---L. Kimball won the attendance list shout out.

"THE ALCHEMIST POT"

DNA – AFRICA – LAW ENFORCEMENT

FEBRUARY 10, 2012                                                                                     VOL. 1, NO.  16

DOUG MOCK…former member of the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Department gave a most interesting presentation regarding the popular topic of DNA.  We discovered doing a DNA test has gone from an initial cost in 1953 of $10,000 with up to a six-month wait to get results to now where the cost is around $200 and in some cases results are available the next day.  Doug also touched on the theory that all mankind can be traced to one initial mother as far back as 200,000 years.

NEXT PROGRAM…Penny Lane, current Athletic Director at Washburn Rural High School, will visit us next Friday.

TOM & MIKE…have committed to help at DOORSTEP Tuesday, February 28th, at 2:00 at the Ag Hall.  If anyone else can help it would be appreciated.

30 ESSAYS…need to be read.  Misty reported we have 30 entries for the essay contest.  If asked to help out please say “YES!”

SATURDAY, FEB 18th…is really busy.  It is our scheduled date to work at the Discovery Center as well as having the Second Quarter Board meeting in Abilene.

B. Holt won the ticket draw---NOBODY won on the badge draw---J. Elder won the attendance list shout out.
