“TAXES: State of Kansas – Corporate – Individual”

                                 Volume 1 Number 3

                                   October 21, 2011

Governor Brownback… commented at length on Taxes: State Corporate and State Individual.  Kansas has one of the highest tax bases in the Midwest and it is hurting our ability to attract new industries as well as new families.  The upcoming State Legislative session will have many issues to deal with but none will be more important than the one focused on TAXES.  We thank the Governor for his time and insight.

Parade of President’s… Next weeks program will highlight and honor the past presidents of the Topeka Downtown Optimist Club. On October 18, 2011, our club was 87 years old. This puts us in the Top 5 clubs in all of Optimist International.  We were the first club in the Kansas District and ALL clubs and members of those clubs are a result of our efforts and being.  PLEASE – As many of the past presidents as possible be in attendance.  Also have a few remarks prepared to share with us on what happened during your year.  Each of you are responsible for this club being the OUTSTANDING club it is.  Let us as a club say thanks!

WOW…a full room!  What a great sight and sound with all 35 chairs occupied.

Inter Club Visit…Five members of the Sunrise club made an inter club visit to our club.  Thank you!  We as a club need to think about when and where we can make our inter club visit.

Cappers says thank you…We had a very nice letter from Phil Oliver thanking us for our recent $200.00 donation.  It is truly wonderful what Cappers does and what a big role they play in the lives of those young people who have mental and physical challenges.

In the FRONT ROW… was 27 year club member Frank Galbraith. It was wonderful to see him and we want him and all club members to know we have a chair for each of you at our weekly club meetings.

WINNER-WINNER-WINNER…just like old times. Bill Kastens returned from his Navy reunion to once again split the attendance pot with OI.  Marilyn Meyer had her badge number call to win “gold chocolate coins” and Frank Galbraith had his name selected  to win the M & M’s.  See good things happen to those who attend the Topeka Downtown Optimist Club. Try it!!!

“Christmas Trees – Bingo – Pancakes – Chile”

Perfect Parade of Past Presidents – Phew!...fourteen of our past presidents shared with the group about their years as past president of the Topeka Downtown Optimist Club. In point of fact a number of them spoke about being a Past President on more than one occasion. Leland Denton – Art Lancaster – Ron Brown spent time behind the podium for more than one year. Art explained it best when he mentioned he was club president 1981 thru 1983. He also got married on October 1981 the very month he was president the first year. He explained it all when he said it was “a busy time.” To each and all the club says ‘well done good and faithful servant.”

Junior Elder had his ticket punched … to win the pot split. Misty missed the M & M’s … when her badge # was called. Two in a row … for Marilyn Meyer having her named picked from the attendance list.
