CASSODAY HIGH SCHOOL REUNION MINUTES

June 14, 2008

 

The Cassoday High School reunion was held on June 14, 2008 in the community building.  The tables were decorated with black and orange streamers with longhorns in raffia grass.  The head table also included a patriotic floral arrangement. 

 

Following the social hour during which orange punch was served David Conner led the group in the invocation.  The meal of barbequed pork and beef, potato salad, cole slaw, relishes, baked beans, brownies, iced tea and coffee were enjoyed by all.  The crowd enjoyed 1950’s era music during their meal.

 

Following the meal Gerry (Swanson) Brown led the group in singing the Star Spangled Banner and Harold Cooper led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Harold Cooper served as the emcee for the evening.  Sandy Cooper and Donna Conner conducted the memorial ceremony.  Those deceased since the 2006 reunion and their dates of death are as follows:

The entertainment for the evening was provided by a singer from Eureka, Jeff Davidson.  He sang several western and cowboy songs including Trails of History, Wagon Wheels, Pony Express, Way Out West in Kansas, Rawhide, Green Grow the Lilacs, Home on the Range, and How the West was Won.  He also sang Battle Hymn of the Republic, God Bless America, and Dixie Land and ended with Taps.  Throughout his performance he mentioned historic dates relating to the songs. 

 

Harold Cooper read a poem honoring the farmer/rancher wife.

 

Raffle tickets we sold throughout the evening for a stained glass longhorn made by David Conner.  Myrna (Koons) Parscal’s name was drawn for the stained glass. 

 

Harold Cooper asked who came the furthest and who was the oldest.  Myrna (Koons) Parscal came the furthest—from Hawaii, and Wilma (Bill) (Bullock) Young was the oldest.

 

David Conner asked the alumni for ideas of what they would like do at the next reunion.  There was not much response.

 

Next was election of officers.  Harold Cooper asked to nominations for President.  Charles Hodges nominated Harold Cooper.  Motion seconded.  Motion carried.  Gerry (Swanson) Brown nominated David Conner for Vice-President.  Motion seconded by Mary (Cooper) Unruh.  Motion carried.  Mary Young nominated Karlea (Rohmeyer) Landman for Secretary-Treasurer.  Motion seconded.  Motion carried.

 

The minutes of the 2006 Cassoday High School Reunion were read and approved as read.  The treasurer’s report was presented and approved as presented.  The evening ended with Jeff Davidson singing “Life’s Highway.”
